Celebrating digital media excellence and opportunities in the south east

Innovation-Warehouse

Join us for the first in a series of Digital Media Network events, a unique new community for artists, writers, filmmakers, designers, creative businesses and creative practitioners in Hampshire with an interest in digital media.

On Tuesday 16th July, representatives of Hampshire’s premier digital media practitioners and business development support agencies for the Creative Industries will gather at the University of Portsmouth’s Innovation Space to highlight some of the exciting work that is being produced in the region, and to discuss opportunities that are arising across the south east. The meeting is the first in a series of six events to be held in conjunction with Creative Network South; a brand-new community that will offer enterprising advice, ideas, opportunities and inspiration to support the growing digital creative and cultural industries in Hampshire,

Speakers confirmed include:

Alex Counsell and Paul Charisse of the University of Portsmouth will be presenting footage from their upcoming feature film, Stina and the Wolf, which has been created using a mixture of performance capture and 2D and 3D animation. The film is a joint project between the University of Portsmouth and students of the Gregg School, and is currently being showcased at industry events with an estimated completion date of 2015. Stina is a fascinating project, not only because of the groundbreaking technology involved, but because of the innovative and adaptive way the company, FOAM Digital, is bridging the communicative gap between industry and University education.

A representative of the Directors of Innovation Warehouse will explain how the organisation is supporting start-up businesses and entrepreneurs, and discuss the communities which are being formed as a result.

Charles Freeman will introduce Creative Network South and outline the network’s goals and what opportunities it will offer to local Creatives and businesses. The group is formed of multiple organisations including Arts Council England, the BFI, PUSH, A Space, ArtsWork, the New Theatre Royal, South East Design Forum, Cibas, The Point, The Sorting Office, Winchester City Council, University of Southampton, University of Winchester, Southampton Solent University and University of Portsmouth.

We will also be joined by Jess Sully from the Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network. Funded by the Technology Strategy Board, CIKTN acts a nationwide facilitator for innovators within the creative industries. CIKTN helps organisations to network, collaborate and find out more about opportunities in relevant research and technology sectors.

This community is to be owned by you, the Creatives, and it’s important that as many people as possible attend in order to further the opportunities in Hampshire and the south east. The Digital Media Network is being formed in order to link the hubs of activity in and around Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester, Eastleigh and Basingstoke, and each event will be hosted in a different location around Hampshire in order to best promote the work of local digital practitioners.

The morning event is open to artists from any discipline interested in discovering how new media and new technologies are creating exciting opportunities in the creative and cultural industries that could benefit you.

The event will take place in the University of Portsmouth’s Innovation Space on Winston Churchill Avenue on Tuesday 16th July from 8.30am to 10.30am, with an opportunity to network. Breakfast will be provided.

Places are free, but limited, so it is essential that you book before attending. To do so, please see our Eventbrite page: http://digital-media-network-launch-event.eventbrite.com
