Designing a People-centred Future

When: 11th September, 2012 – 12th September, 2012

Venue: Aalto Design Factory, Betonimiehenkuja 5c, Espoo 02150 Finland

What is the event about?
Designing a People-centred Future is an event organised by the UK Science and Innovation Network and Creative Industries KTN to explore the latest developments in User-Centred Design and to vision the future products and services which will be developed with digital technologies, and importantly the user, at the centre of the design process.

Join us in Helsinki for this must-attend two day event which will showcase the best of UK, Finnish and European innovation in design, and create opportunities for R&D collaboration and commercial connections.

Event Background
In recent years, design as a tool for innovation has developed rapidly with some European countries leading the way, particularly the UK and the Nordics.

Effective design of products and services is driven by societal and user needs and understanding the behaviour of people has become increasingly central for successful innovation in an extremely competitive global environment.

Consequently, the user as a direct participant in the design and development process has become a major driver for new innovations. This trend is accelerated by the emergence of digital innovations, whether personal devices, the “Internet of Things” or open data, which provide a catalyst for new models of design engagement and extend opportunities and challenges for User-centred Design.

The UK and Finland have complementary areas of expertise in product and service design and this initiative will seek to connect the best of both – the UK as a global leader in creative industries and Finland as a pioneer in areas such as strategic design and user-driven innovation.

Helsinki is the World Design Capital in 2012 and this event will both link to the Design Capital and form part of Helsinki Design Week.
