Triangle 2012 is a new national talent development initiative to support emerging writers, directors and producers in film to develop new working relationships – ‘triangles’. The 11 month programme builds on the pan-Northern Triangle pilot in 2011 and now opens up to talent from across the UK. Triangle 2012 is a partnership between Screen Yorkshire andNorthern Film & Media, funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund as part of A Bigger Future 2, the UK’s Film Skills Strategy.
Triangle 2012 will initially be open to 75 participants and over the next year will be reduced down to four teams of threewho will pitch their projects to an industry panel at the BFI London Film Festival. A series of workshops and seminars along with intensive support from industry mentors will support the ‘triangle’ teams as they develop their projects to be market ready.
Vita Nova Films’ Steve Bowden, Producer of Law and Disorder and Triangle 2011 participant, said: “Applying to Triangle was one of the best decisions we ever made. The scheme fast tracked the development of our feature film and led directly to signing a deal with a major UK distributor. We’re scheduled to start filming in Summer 2012 and Triangle played a significant part in helping us achieve that aim. I can not recommend this scheme enough!”
In the first instance, we are looking for up to 40 writers and writer/directors to participate in one of two workshops inLeeds and Newcastle on May 2, from which we will select 12 writers and projects to form the core of the teams in Triangle 2012. The deadline for writers is 16th April.
The deadline for producers and directors is May 18th. The 12 selected writers (or writer/directors) and up to 36 producers and directors will be invited to the launch event in Sheffield on 12th & 13th June. Accommodation will be provided for those that need it the nights of 11th and 12th June. Doc/Fest begins on 13th June, and participants may wish to stay on at their own initiative.
