Founder D-Media Network members, director Scott Mann and producer / composer James Edward Barker, have announced a multi-million dollar slate for their action brand, Boys With Toys.
Boys With Toys first round will consist of six films with a total budget of $123 million. It is launched by Scott’s Mann Made Films, James’ Veneration Music and German Outfit the Very Useful Co. Other directors who are joining forces with the initiative are Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday), Michael J. Bassett (Soloman Kane, Deathwatch) and Adrian Vitoria (Age of Heroes).
Speaking at the Cannes Film festival to Gina Fegan, CEO of D-Media Network, James described Boys with Toys as ‘an action brand that is high octane, high concept branded entertainment for the international filmmakers, on a small budget.’
As reported in Variety magazine, the aim is to bring bolder and more exciting commercial films to the UK. Scott said the concept of Boys with Toys: ‘sees a group of like-minded directors supporting each other and protecting each other to create a recognisable and unique identity’.
Boys With Toys will also venture into video gaming and multimedia apps while Barker’s music company, Veneration Music, will oversee all the score coordination under the brand.
Speaking at Cannes Scott (The Tournament, starring Robert Carlyle & Ving Rhames) also confirmed that he was attached to direct the remake of Seven Samurai for the Weinstein Brothers company and said that it was very exciting.
